Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in finance, hospitality, tourism, technology, engineering, healthcare and retail. Major employment centres include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, while Langkawi, Penang Island, Redang and Sabah’s islands provide resort-focused work. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions; English is widely used in business, alongside Malay and other languages. Lifestyle ranges from modern city living to relaxed coastal communities, with generally affordable food and transport, although central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands cost more. Foreign workers usually need an employer-sponsored employment pass or sector-specific work permit, and should not begin work on a tourist visa. Relocation involves arranging accommodation, banking, healthcare coverage and local registration. Check current Malaysian immigration rules and employer requirements before accepting an offer.
