Destination Guide

Hong Kong combines a fast-paced international business environment with dense urban living, traditional neighbourhoods, mountains and beaches. Job opportunities are strong in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation and professional services, although competition and living costs are high. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and multinational workplaces. The city offers excellent public transport, varied food, vibrant cultural events and easy access to hiking and surrounding islands. Most overseas professionals need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer; applications generally require a confirmed offer, relevant qualifications and experience, and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Employers often assist with visa processing, relocation, medical coverage and housing allowances, but packages vary. Prospective movers should budget carefully for rent, deposits, schooling and healthcare.
