Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance, healthcare and logistics. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture combines Southeast Asian traditions with a highly organised, international lifestyle. Public transport is efficient, food choices are diverse and the city is clean, safe and well connected, although accommodation and daily expenses can be high. Popular areas include Orchard Road, Marina Bay, Kampong Glam, Chinatown and Sentosa. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation. Employers usually guide successful candidates through the application process. Before relocating, check pass eligibility, medical requirements, accommodation costs and employment terms. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
