Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, food and beverage, tourism, retail, technology and finance. Its multicultural society blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, reflected in its festivals, languages and famous hawker cuisine. Living standards are high, public transport is clean and efficient, and neighbourhoods are generally safe, though accommodation and daily expenses can be costly. Chefs can find opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, bakeries, catering companies and institutional kitchens. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation. Employers usually guide successful candidates through the application process. Relocating workers should budget for rent, transport, medical needs and deposits, and verify contract terms, work-pass eligibility and accommodation arrangements before accepting an offer.
