Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city-state with excellent public transport, strong infrastructure, and a multicultural population influenced by Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western traditions. Hospitality is a major employment sector, offering opportunities in hotels, restaurants, events, tourism, retail, and luxury services. Life is convenient and generally safe, although housing and dining in central areas can be expensive. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil are also official languages. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass, or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary, and occupation. Employers usually guide successful candidates through the application process. New arrivals should budget for accommodation, transport, medical coverage, and deposits, and should verify pass eligibility before relocating.
