Destination Guide

Thailand’s islands offer a relaxed lifestyle alongside growing opportunities in tourism, hospitality, property, wellness, education, marine services and remote or internationally connected work. Phuket has the broadest professional infrastructure, international schools, hospitals, airports and expatriate communities. Koh Samui provides a quieter lifestyle with strong resort and hospitality employment, while Koh Phangan is known for wellness, coworking and alternative communities. Smaller islands such as Koh Tao offer diving and seasonal tourism work but fewer corporate services. Thai culture values politeness, respect for hierarchy, family and community; learning basic Thai helps greatly. Living costs vary, with Phuket and Samui generally more expensive than mainland towns. Foreign employees normally need a Thai employer-sponsored Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit, with qualifications and documentation approved before employment. Long-term residents should arrange health insurance, suitable housing and tax advice. Bangkok remains the practical base for corporate banking careers, with islands better suited to lifestyle relocation or occasional remote work.
