Company Info

United Overseas Bank (UOB) is a major Southeast Asian bank headquartered in Singapore, with operations across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The bank provides retail and commercial banking, corporate finance, transaction banking, wealth management, investment banking, and treasury services to individuals, businesses, and institutions. UOB has expanded its regional presence through the acquisition of Citigroup's consumer banking operations in several markets, including Thailand. The organization places strong emphasis on responsible banking, regulatory compliance, risk management, digital transformation, and long-term customer relationships. In Thailand, UOB serves personal, affluent, corporate, and institutional customers through branches, digital channels, and specialized banking teams. Employees generally work in a structured, multinational environment with opportunities for regional collaboration and professional development.

Destination Guide

Thailand offers varied opportunities for banking, compliance, technology, hospitality, education, healthcare, and digital services, although most senior financial-sector roles are concentrated in Bangkok rather than the islands. Phuket, Koh Samui, and parts of Krabi provide a relaxed island lifestyle, international communities, beaches, outdoor activities, and strong tourism economies. Living costs vary: Phuket and Samui can be expensive in popular areas, while local neighborhoods are more affordable. Thai culture values respect, politeness, family, food, and community; learning basic Thai is useful. Reliable internet is available in major island towns, though transport and healthcare can be less convenient than in Bangkok. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit before working legally. Relocation should include housing research, health insurance, tax advice, and confirmation that the employer handles immigration requirements. Bangkok is usually the practical base for this UOB role.
