Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in technology, logistics, shared services, finance, engineering and digital operations, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah, each offering different lifestyles. Penang combines a strong technology sector, heritage culture, excellent food and coastal living. Langkawi is quieter and more tourism-focused, while Sabah provides beaches, nature and outdoor activities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in professional settings. Living costs are moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular islands can be more expensive. Employment usually requires an employer-sponsored work permit, commonly an Employment Pass, and the employer normally handles the application. Candidates should secure a written offer before relocating, check tax and healthcare arrangements, and research housing, transport, climate and schooling if moving with family. Remote island living may have fewer corporate and medical services than major cities.
