Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare, education, and business services. Colombo is the main commercial centre, while cities such as Kandy, Galle, and Katunayake also provide employment. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse landscapes, affordable local food, and a generally community-oriented lifestyle. Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages, while English is widely used in business. New arrivals should research accommodation, transport, healthcare, taxes, and local employment conditions before relocating. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-supported work visa or residence authorization; tourist visas do not permit employment. Employers may assist with documentation, but requirements can change, so applicants should confirm details with Sri Lankan immigration authorities or the nearest embassy. Cultural awareness, modest dress in religious settings, and respect for local customs are important.
