Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and textiles, tourism, information technology, finance, logistics, engineering, agriculture, healthcare, and business services. Colombo and nearby industrial zones are the main employment centers, while Kandy, Galle, and other cities provide additional options. The country has a warm tropical climate, diverse cuisine, strong family and community traditions, and a mix of Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, and other cultural influences. Living costs are generally lower than in many international business hubs, although Colombo accommodation can be relatively expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence authorization arranged with employer support; tourists cannot legally work. Interns should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, insurance, and work permissions before relocating. Sri Lanka’s beaches, hill country, wildlife parks, and historic sites make it attractive for travel, but newcomers should plan for traffic, seasonal monsoons, and varying public transport standards.
