Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers growing opportunities in apparel, tourism, technology, banking, logistics, business services, and marketing. Colombo is the main commercial centre, while Kandy, Galle, and other cities provide a more relaxed lifestyle and lower living costs. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse food, strong family and community values, and a culture influenced by Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian traditions. English is widely used in workplaces, although Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Public transport is affordable, but traffic can be heavy. Foreign nationals generally need an appropriate employment visa or work permit arranged with employer support; tourist visas do not permit employment. Interns should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, insurance, and tax requirements before relocating. Healthcare and modern amenities are most accessible in Colombo.
