Destination Guide

Sri Lanka is an island nation with employment opportunities in apparel manufacturing, IT, tourism, logistics, engineering, finance, healthcare, and shared services. Colombo and nearby industrial zones offer the broadest range of professional roles, while other regions provide opportunities in manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, and services. The culture is diverse and generally welcoming, with strong family traditions, varied religious communities, and excellent food. Lifestyle costs are moderate, although housing in Colombo is more expensive. Public transport is affordable, while private transport is more convenient. Foreign nationals need an employer-sponsored work authorization and appropriate residence or employment visa before working; tourist visas do not permit employment. Employers commonly assist with sponsorship and documentation. Relocating workers should arrange housing, health insurance, banking, and tax advice, and should confirm salary, accommodation, transport, and working-hour provisions before accepting an offer.
