Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in engineering, marine and offshore services, aerospace, manufacturing, logistics, technology, finance and healthcare. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally business-oriented, with excellent public transport, reliable infrastructure, diverse food and a high level of personal safety. Living costs can be high, especially rent, although buses and trains make commuting convenient. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on qualifications, salary and current government criteria. Employers commonly provide guidance on applications and relocation, but candidates should confirm requirements with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking access and tax registration, and budget carefully for housing and daily expenses.
