Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with strong opportunities in cloud computing, cybersecurity, engineering, finance, logistics, healthcare and advanced manufacturing. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is diverse, orderly and fast-paced, with excellent public transport, safe neighbourhoods and a food scene ranging from hawker centres to international restaurants. Housing is the largest expense, particularly in central areas, although shared accommodation and suburbs can reduce costs. Employment usually requires an Employment Pass for professional roles; the employer generally submits the application, and approval depends on salary, qualifications and prevailing government criteria. Candidates should arrange a written offer, verify pass eligibility, budget for rental deposits and healthcare, and bring certified educational and employment documents. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so lightweight clothing and adaptable planning are useful.
