Destination Guide

New Zealand offers strong opportunities for physiotherapists, nurses, allied-health professionals, aged-care workers, disability-support staff and other healthcare specialists, particularly in Auckland and regional centres. The country has a relaxed, multicultural culture with a strong emphasis on work-life balance, outdoor recreation and community wellbeing. Auckland, on the North Island, is diverse and offers the broadest employment market, although housing and transport costs can be high. The South Island is known for a quieter lifestyle, scenic towns and excellent access to hiking, skiing and other outdoor activities. Overseas physiotherapists generally need registration with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand and an Annual Practising Certificate. Depending on nationality and circumstances, options may include an Accredited Employer Work Visa, residence pathways or working-holiday arrangements. Applicants should check Immigration New Zealand and professional-registration requirements before relocating.
