Destination Guide

Bintan is an Indonesian island in the Riau Archipelago, popular for resorts, beaches, golf, water activities, and its convenient ferry connection to Singapore. Job opportunities are concentrated in resorts, restaurants, tourism, transport, retail, and supporting services, with hospitality experience and English often valued. Life is generally quieter and less expensive than Singapore, although remote resort areas have fewer shopping, medical, and entertainment choices. Local culture combines Malay and Indonesian traditions, with strong Muslim influence and a relaxed, community-oriented lifestyle. Newcomers should respect modest dress and local customs, especially outside resort areas. Foreign nationals normally require an employer-sponsored Indonesian work permit and appropriate visa or stay permit; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers generally handle sponsorship, but candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, transport, insurance, taxes, and permit responsibilities before relocating. Ferry access makes Singapore convenient for occasional international travel.
