Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, including Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, construction, healthcare and technology provide many employment opportunities, especially for international workers. UAE culture combines Islamic traditions, Arab hospitality and a highly multicultural workforce. Sharjah is more conservative and family-oriented than Dubai, with lower living costs but stricter rules around public behavior and alcohol. The lifestyle is modern, hot and urban, with malls, beaches, museums and desert activities available. Employers normally sponsor a work permit and residence visa after hiring; employees should not work on a tourist visa. A passport, medical examination, Emirates ID and authenticated documents may be required. Relocating staff should confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, working hours, gratuity and contract terms before accepting an offer.
