Destination Guide

Langkawi is a relaxed Malaysian archipelago known for beaches, mangrove forests, waterfalls, island-hopping, and duty-free shopping. Hospitality is the main employment sector, with opportunities in hotels, restaurants, spas, tour operations, marine activities, retail, and transport. The culture blends Malay traditions with Chinese, Indian, and international influences; modest dress and respectful behavior are appreciated, especially in villages and religious places. Lifestyle is quieter than Kuala Lumpur, with a lower cost of living but fewer urban services. Rent, transport, and availability of staff accommodation should be checked before relocating. Foreign applicants generally need an employer-sponsored Malaysian employment pass or relevant work authorization and must not begin work as a tourist. Employers normally handle much of the application process, subject to immigration approval. Langkawi International Airport provides connections to mainland Malaysia and selected regional destinations, while local travel relies on taxis, ride-hailing, motorcycles, and rental cars.
