Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but a federation of seven emirates, including Ajman, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, retail, aviation, construction, healthcare and technology provide many job opportunities. The culture combines Emirati traditions with a highly international population; modest dress, courtesy and respect for religious customs are important. Lifestyle options range from affordable coastal living in Ajman to busier, more expensive Dubai. Summers are extremely hot, while winters are pleasant and suited to outdoor activities. Most foreign employees require an employer-sponsored work permit and residence visa; the employer commonly arranges medical tests, Emirates ID processing and insurance. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, meals, transport, airfare, leave and gratuity in writing. Ajman generally offers lower living costs than Dubai and is connected by road to major commercial areas.
