Destination Guide

Langkawi is a relaxed Malaysian archipelago known for beaches, mangroves, rainforest, island-hopping, and a duty-free shopping environment. Job opportunities are concentrated in luxury resorts, restaurants, tourism, marine activities, wellness, events, transport, retail, and hotel sales and marketing. Malay culture is central, with strong Chinese, Indian, and international influences; English is widely used in tourism, while Malay is valuable for daily life. The lifestyle is peaceful and outdoors-oriented, although some professional services and entertainment are less extensive than in Kuala Lumpur. Foreign nationals normally need an approved Malaysian work permit or Employment Pass sponsored by an employer; working on a tourist or social visit pass is not permitted. Employers generally handle much of the application process. Relocating involves arranging accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking, transport, and document verification. Langkawi International Airport provides connections to major Malaysian cities and selected regional destinations.
