Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah, Sarawak and resort islands such as Redang and Perhentian. Hotels, restaurants, events, tourism, retail and customer service employers regularly recruit multilingual candidates. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest career market, modern transport, shopping and diverse international food, while island destinations offer a slower, outdoor lifestyle centred on beaches, diving and nature. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, although Malay is valuable. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass approved before starting work, and requirements vary by nationality and role. Relocating involves arranging accommodation, health insurance, banking and transport. Kuala Lumpur is urban and convenient, while island living can be seasonal and more limited in services.
