Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest concentration of hospitality jobs. Opportunities are strong in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, events and luxury resorts, particularly for trained chefs and international cuisine specialists. Life is modern, multicultural and convenient, with excellent transport, shopping, beaches and dining, although summers are extremely hot. Dubai's lifestyle is fast-paced and international, while costs can be high, especially for rent. Employers commonly arrange an employment visa, work permit, medical examination and Emirates ID after hiring; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Many hotel packages include accommodation, meals, transport, insurance and annual airfare, but terms should be checked carefully. Candidates should verify contract details, probation, working hours, gratuity and accommodation before relocating. English is widely used in hospitality, and Arabic knowledge is helpful but usually not essential.
