Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, including Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Hospitality offers many opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events and aviation, with frequent openings for reservations, guest services and food and beverage staff. The culture is modern and international while rooted in Islamic traditions; modest dress and respectful behaviour are expected, particularly during Ramadan. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to quieter coastal communities, with excellent shopping, beaches, public transport and international schools. Most overseas employees need employer-sponsored residence and work visas; the employer normally arranges the work permit, medical examination, Emirates ID and residency process. Bring authenticated qualifications where requested and confirm accommodation, transport, insurance, leave and end-of-service terms before relocating. Sharjah is generally more conservative and often less expensive than Dubai, although commuting and summer heat should be considered.
