Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Melaka and other tourist destinations. Hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, wellness, diving and guest services regularly recruit experienced international candidates, although Kuala Lumpur generally provides the broadest corporate and hotel market. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in tourism and business. Lifestyle costs are moderate, with Kuala Lumpur offering urban amenities, shopping and public transport, while island destinations provide a slower, beach-oriented lifestyle. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and the employer generally handles approval and immigration procedures before work begins. Candidates should verify current salary, pass eligibility and employment conditions with the hotel and Malaysian authorities. Relocation planning should include accommodation, health insurance, transport and adaptation to Malaysia’s tropical climate.
