Destination Guide

The Maldives offers employment mainly in resorts, hotels, restaurants, marine activities, construction, engineering, aviation and support services. Resort jobs commonly include accommodation, meals, transportation and sometimes medical coverage, although contract terms should be checked carefully. Maldivian culture is shaped by Islam, island communities, fishing traditions and strong hospitality values; modest dress and respectful behavior are important outside resort areas. Life on a resort island is peaceful and scenic, but remote, with limited shopping and entertainment compared with Malé. Employees should expect humid tropical weather, international colleagues and a work-centered lifestyle. Foreign workers generally require an employer-sponsored Employment Approval and work visa, arranged through the employer and Maldives immigration authorities. A valid passport, medical screening, employment contract and relevant certificates are normally required. Relocation planning should include document verification, flight arrangements, insurance details and confirmation of accommodation, leave, communication access and emergency procedures.
