Destination Guide

Phuket is Thailand’s best-known island destination and offers employment in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, wellness, events, retail and marine activities. The lifestyle combines busy tourist areas with quieter beaches, local markets, temples and nearby islands. Phuket has a warm tropical climate, international dining, nightlife and a large expatriate community, although rent and transport costs can be higher than in many other Thai provinces. Thai culture values politeness, respect, modesty and good relationships, while learning basic Thai is useful for daily life. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit before legally working; requirements depend on nationality and contract. Employers commonly assist with documentation, but candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, service charge, insurance and visa support in writing. Relocation planning should include housing, healthcare, transport and rainy-season conditions.
