Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, software engineering, digital marketing, finance, consulting, manufacturing, education, tourism, and customer support. Tokyo is the largest employment hub, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Okinawa also have growing markets. The country’s main islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku, with many smaller islands. Japanese workplaces value punctuality, preparation, respect, teamwork, and careful communication. Life is convenient, safe, and supported by excellent public transport, although Tokyo housing and daily expenses can be high. Learning Japanese greatly improves social and career opportunities, even when a position uses English. Most foreign employees need an employer-sponsored work visa, commonly an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa; highly skilled professionals may qualify for preferential treatment. Relocating usually involves securing employment, arranging housing, registering an address, obtaining health insurance, and setting up banking and mobile services.
