Destination Guide

Bermuda offers opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, finance, insurance, retail, marine services, construction and professional services. The culture blends British, African, Caribbean, Portuguese and North American influences, with strong traditions of courtesy, community, music and water-based recreation. Lifestyle is generally relaxed but relatively expensive; housing, groceries and transport can cost more than in many destinations. Beaches, sailing, diving, golf and outdoor activities are major attractions, while scooters and public buses are common ways to travel. Bermuda tightly controls immigration, so overseas candidates normally need an employer-sponsored work permit before starting employment. Employers usually demonstrate that the role cannot readily be filled by an eligible Bermudian or approved resident, and permits are tied to the position and employer. Candidates should confirm eligibility, permit duration, accommodation arrangements, healthcare, taxes and relocation costs directly with Fairmont and Bermuda’s immigration authorities before accepting an offer.
