Destination Guide

Qatar is a compact Gulf country rather than an island, with Doha as its main employment and lifestyle centre. Opportunities are strongest in hospitality, tourism, events, aviation, construction, energy, retail, healthcare and professional services. Arabic is the official language, while English is widely used at work. Life is modern and generally safe, with excellent restaurants, shopping malls, beaches, museums and desert activities. The climate is very hot in summer, so indoor facilities are popular, while the cooler months are ideal for outdoor events. Most expatriate employees require employer-sponsored work and residence permits; the employer normally manages visa processing, medical checks and identification procedures. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, health insurance, flight allowances, gratuity and contract terms before relocating. Qatar has no personal income tax on salaries, but living costs, especially rent, can be high without employer support. Respect for local customs, modest dress and Islamic traditions is important.
