Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, resorts and tourism, particularly in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Cairns and regional destinations. Hospitality work suits people who enjoy multicultural teams, customer service and a fast-paced lifestyle. Australian workplace culture generally values punctuality, direct communication, teamwork, safety and a good work-life balance. Brisbane provides warm weather, outdoor activities, public transport, sporting events and access to beaches and coastal areas, although housing costs and competition for rentals can be significant. International workers usually need an appropriate visa, such as a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa or skilled visa, depending on nationality, age, qualifications and occupation. Before relocating, arrange valid work rights, health insurance, tax registration, accommodation and funds for initial expenses. A recognised food-safety qualification and Australian hospitality experience can improve employment prospects.
