The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the widest range of hospitality, engineering, construction and service-sector jobs. The country is highly international, modern and generally safe, with a culture influenced by Islamic traditions. Respectful dress and behaviour are expected, particularly during Ramadan and in public places. Dubai offers a fast-paced lifestyle, extensive public transport, shopping, beaches and diverse restaurants, although housing and leisure costs can be high. Employees normally require employer-sponsored work authorization and residence visas; working without the correct permit is not allowed. Employers may provide accommodation, transport, medical insurance or meals, but candidates should confirm these details in writing. Relocating workers should budget for deposits, document attestation, medical checks and initial living expenses. English is widely used in workplaces.
