Destination Guide

The Maldives offers job opportunities mainly in resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, housekeeping, engineering, finance, and guest services. Resort work is a major employment sector for both Maldivians and international staff. Life on a resort island is peaceful and scenic, but remote: employees usually live in shared staff accommodation, receive meals, and have limited shopping and entertainment compared with Malé. Maldivian culture is shaped by Islam, island traditions, seafood, community values, and strong respect for modesty; alcohol is generally restricted outside licensed resorts. International employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and valid entry approval, with medical checks and document verification arranged through the employer. Relocation commonly involves flying to Malé, followed by a domestic flight or seaplane transfer. Confirm salary, service charge, contract length, leave, insurance, flights, and accommodation before accepting an offer.
