Destination Guide

The Maldives offers strong employment opportunities in resorts, especially in culinary, housekeeping, food and beverage, engineering, diving, spa, guest relations and marine activities. Resort life is structured and communal: employees usually live on the property, share staff accommodation and work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays. Maldivian culture blends Islamic traditions with South Asian and Indian Ocean influences, so modest dress and respectful behavior are important, particularly when visiting local islands. Lifestyle benefits include beaches, water sports, snorkeling, diving and a relaxed natural setting, but shopping and healthcare facilities may be limited on small resort islands. Foreign workers generally require an employer-sponsored Employment Approval and work visa, arranged through the Maldives immigration system. Employers commonly provide accommodation, meals, airport transfers and return airfare, but terms vary. Bring essential documents, certificates and suitable personal supplies before relocating, and confirm medical, leave and contract conditions in writing.
