Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island and resort destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Redang, Tioman and parts of Borneo employ staff in housekeeping, food service, reception, diving, wellness and maintenance. Life is generally warm and tropical, with affordable local food, multicultural communities and a relaxed outdoor lifestyle, although resort work can involve long shifts during peak seasons. English is widely used in hotels, while Malay is the national language; Chinese and Tamil are also common. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work authorisation, such as an approved employment pass or relevant temporary work permit, before starting employment. The employer usually handles much of the application process. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical checks, insurance, contract terms and return-flight arrangements before relocating. Penang and Langkawi offer established expatriate communities, while smaller islands may provide fewer amenities but closer resort living.
