Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hotel and tourism opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Malacca and other resort areas. Langkawi, Penang and Sabah are especially attractive for island and coastal hospitality work, while Kuala Lumpur provides broader year-round employment. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels, alongside Malay and other local languages. Lifestyle costs vary, with resort islands sometimes requiring careful budgeting for housing and transport. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and must meet Malaysian immigration and employment requirements before starting work; employers usually handle much of the application process. Candidates should confirm accommodation, service charge, working hours, medical benefits and permit arrangements in writing before relocating.
