Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city and coastal territory rather than a single island, although Hong Kong Island is its best-known central area. It offers opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation and digital marketing, with strong demand for multilingual and internationally experienced professionals. The culture blends Chinese traditions with global influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business. Lifestyle choices range from dense urban living, dining and nightlife to hiking, beaches and outlying islands. Public transport is excellent, but housing is expensive, especially near Central and popular districts. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with qualifications and a confirmed offer normally required. Dependants may apply for accompanying visas. New arrivals should budget for deposits, healthcare, transport and relocation costs, and check current immigration rules before moving.
