Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic city with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, retail, finance, technology and tourism. Its culture combines Chinese traditions, Cantonese food and festivals with international influences and a fast-paced professional environment. Lifestyle options range from dense urban districts and excellent public transport to beaches, hiking trails and quieter outlying islands. The cost of living is high, especially rent, so employer accommodation or housing support can be valuable. Foreign employees generally need an approved employment visa before starting work; the employer normally sponsors the application, and the role should meet immigration requirements. Applicants should prepare a valid passport, employment contract, qualifications and supporting documents. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, medical coverage and a Hong Kong bank account, and understand local labour, tax and immigration rules. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is commonly used in hotels and international workplaces.
