Destination Guide

The Philippines is an archipelago with major employment hubs in Metro Manila, Cebu, Clark, Davao, Boracay and Palawan. Hospitality opportunities are available in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism companies and customer-service centers, although resort work can be seasonal. Filipino culture is generally warm, family-oriented and community-minded, and English is widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle varies from busy city living to relaxed coastal communities; transport, weather and internet access can also differ by island. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and an appropriate visa, commonly arranged through the Bureau of Immigration, before beginning employment. Relocating employees should budget for housing deposits, transport, healthcare, tropical weather and occasional travel between islands. Applicants should verify salary, accommodation, meals, service charge, medical coverage and relocation support directly with the Shangri-La property.
