Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, events, restaurants, travel services, IT, education and international business. Colombo has the widest employment market, while coastal and resort areas such as Galle, Bentota and the Maldives-facing southern coast provide seasonal hospitality roles. The culture is welcoming and diverse, combining Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim and colonial influences, with Buddhism playing an important role. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many international cities, although Colombo rents and imported goods can be expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work visa or residence authorisation; visitors should not work on a tourist visa. Employers may assist with documentation, but candidates should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, insurance and tax arrangements before relocating. Sri Lanka has tropical weather, excellent beaches, historic cities, wildlife and mountainous inland regions.
