Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, restaurants, events and international business. Its culture blends Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences, reflected in its festivals, languages and famous hawker food. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and convenient, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare and many shopping, dining and entertainment options. Living costs, especially rent, are relatively high, so employer accommodation or a housing allowance can be valuable. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and government approval. Employers normally support the application and relocation process, but candidates should confirm eligibility before accepting an offer. Singapore has a hot, humid tropical climate year-round, with frequent rain. New arrivals should budget for housing, transport, insurance and deposits while adapting to the fast-paced urban environment.
