Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation and professional services, with international employers and a fast-moving business environment. Although commonly described as an island destination, Hong Kong includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, plus many outlying islands. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels. Life is energetic and convenient, supported by excellent public transport, extensive dining, hiking trails and a dense urban lifestyle. Housing can be expensive, particularly near central districts, so many professionals choose areas such as Kowloon, the New Territories or the southern side of Hong Kong Island. Eligible foreign professionals generally require an employment visa sponsored by their employer, with approval depending on qualifications, experience and the role. Employers commonly assist with visa paperwork and relocation guidance. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health insurance, banking and tax registration, and understand local employment and immigration rules.
