Destination Guide

Malaysia is more than one island: major hospitality opportunities are found in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and other resort areas. Events professionals can find work in luxury hotels, convention centres, beach resorts, restaurants and destination-wedding businesses. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with excellent food, festivals and generally welcoming communities. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many international destinations, although Kuala Lumpur and popular resort islands can be more expensive. Langkawi offers a relaxed beach lifestyle, while Penang combines heritage, food and urban convenience. Foreign nationals normally need a confirmed employer to sponsor the appropriate Employment Pass before starting work; requirements vary by nationality, salary and position. Employers usually assist with applications, but candidates should verify current rules with Malaysian immigration authorities. Accommodation, transport and healthcare arrangements should be reviewed before relocating.
