Destination Guide

Indonesia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sales, technology, education and international business. Jakarta, on Java, is the country’s commercial center and provides the strongest corporate career market, though traffic, humidity and living costs can be demanding. Bali is more relaxed and tourism-focused, with strong hotel, wellness and events employment. Lombok, Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi and the eastern islands offer distinctive cultures, beaches and outdoor lifestyles, but generally have smaller job markets. Indonesian culture values respect, community, modesty and relationship-building; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate limited-stay visa, arranged before working, and should not work on a tourist visa. Relocation planning should cover housing, health insurance, tax registration, banking and document legalization. Local employment rules can change, so candidates should confirm requirements with the employer and Indonesian immigration authorities.
