Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected coastal city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and outlying islands. Hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, finance, technology, and professional services provide substantial employment opportunities, although competition is strong. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; courtesy, efficiency, and respect for seniority are important in the workplace. Life is energetic, safe, and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, hiking trails, beaches, and a vibrant arts and nightlife scene. Housing is expensive, so many employees share accommodation or live in districts outside the central areas. Overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by an eligible employer before starting work. Employers usually assist with documentation, but applicants must meet qualification, salary, and immigration requirements. Dependants may apply for dependant visas in eligible cases.
