Destination Guide

Mauritius offers employment opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, tourism, finance, technology, healthcare, retail and construction. Hospitality remains one of the main sectors for overseas workers, particularly for chefs, kitchen assistants, food and beverage staff, housekeeping and guest services. The island has a multicultural society influenced by Indian, African, European and Chinese heritage, with English and French widely used alongside Mauritian Creole. Life is generally relaxed, with warm weather, beaches, hiking, water sports and a strong outdoor culture. Living costs vary, and accommodation provided by an employer can be especially valuable in resort areas. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored work permit or Occupation Permit before starting work; the employer commonly assists with applications, medical checks and documentation. Candidates should confirm contract terms, housing, transport, insurance and repatriation arrangements before relocating.
