Destination Guide

Mauritius offers employment opportunities in luxury hotels and resorts, tourism, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, healthcare and education. The hospitality sector is especially important, with roles available in guest services, food and beverage, housekeeping, activities and management. Mauritian culture blends African, Indian, Chinese, French and Creole influences, reflected in its languages, festivals and cuisine. Life is relaxed and outdoors-oriented, with beaches, hiking, diving, water sports and a warm climate. English is the official working language, while French and Mauritian Creole are widely spoken. Foreign nationals normally need an approved work permit or occupation permit before starting employment; the employer commonly supports the application. Relocation requires checking accommodation, transport, healthcare, banking and contract benefits in advance. Resort locations can be scenic but relatively remote, so staff housing or transport is worth confirming. Living costs vary, especially for imported goods and coastal accommodation.
