Destination Guide

Bahrain is a compact island country in the Arabian Gulf with a diverse expatriate population and opportunities in hospitality, construction, finance, retail, healthcare, logistics, and tourism. The culture combines Gulf traditions with a relatively relaxed and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Arabic is the official language, while English is widely used in workplaces. Manama offers modern shopping malls, restaurants, beaches, museums, historic sites, and lively entertainment, although summers are extremely hot and humid. Most international hotel employees receive employer-sponsored work visas, accommodation or a housing allowance, transportation, medical insurance, and annual leave benefits; requirements should be confirmed with the employer. New arrivals need a valid passport, employment contract, medical checks, and residency processing. Bahrain has no personal income tax, but living costs vary depending on housing, transport, and lifestyle. Respect for local customs, modest dress in traditional areas, and awareness of religious holidays are important.
