Destination Guide

The UAE offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, aviation, tourism, finance, healthcare and construction, particularly in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Abu Dhabi combines a modern, safe lifestyle with beaches, museums, shopping malls and a quieter pace than Dubai. The culture is multicultural, but Islamic traditions, modest dress in public areas and respect for local customs are important. Summers are extremely hot, so indoor facilities and air-conditioned transport are central to daily life. Most overseas employees need an employer-sponsored work visa; the employer generally arranges the work permit, medical examination, Emirates ID and residency formalities. Candidates should verify the written offer, accommodation, transport, working hours, benefits and recruitment fees before travelling. Housing, meals and flights may be provided in hospitality contracts, making relocation easier, although personal costs and deposits should be budgeted for.
