Destination Guide

Qatar is a modern Gulf country, and The Pearl-Qatar is a man-made island connected to Doha by road rather than a remote island destination. Hospitality, retail, tourism, aviation, construction, healthcare and business services provide many employment opportunities, particularly in Doha. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a highly international workforce; modest dress, respectful behavior and sensitivity during Ramadan are important. Lifestyle options include beaches, shopping, restaurants, museums, desert excursions and water activities, although summers are extremely hot. Most foreign workers need an employer-sponsored work visa and residence permit, with the employer usually arranging medical checks and documentation. Confirm the contract, accommodation, transport, health coverage, working hours and end-of-service benefits before relocating. Qatar is generally safe, but costs can be high, especially for private housing. English is widely used in hotels and businesses, while Arabic is the official language.
