Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, technology, healthcare, logistics and education. English is widely used at work, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally respectful of punctuality, cleanliness and regulations. Lifestyle options range from excellent public transport, food centres and shopping to parks, museums, beaches and an active international community. Employment usually requires a work pass sponsored by the employer; common options include the Employment Pass for professional roles and the S Pass for eligible mid-skilled positions, subject to current salary and quota rules. Applicants should confirm requirements with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. Housing can be expensive, so newcomers often compare shared apartments, rooms and locations near MRT stations. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
